Heung et al. investigated the detection of fetal mRNA in maternal whole blood to determine if it offered advantages over maternal plasma analysis. Peripheral blood samples were collected from 5 third-trimester healthy women with singleton uncomplicated pregnancies (38–39 weeks) and 5 age-matched healthy non-pregnant females.
