Brennan et al. used microarray profiling to examine the temporal and spatial changes in myometrial gene expression during normally-progressing and dystocic labors to improve our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying term dystocic labor. Myometrial biopsies were obtained from the lower uterine segment in women undergoing cesarean section for dystocia and in control women undergoing cesarean section for persistent occiput posterior position. All patients were in spontaneous (non-induced) labor and had received intrapartum oxytocin to accelerate labor.
